Education: A high school diploma is mandatory. Associates degree in business, healthcare or related field preferred.
Certification: Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) from the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS).
Experience: Applicant must have a minimum of three to five years’ experience in medical staff privileging/credentialing processes or managed care provider credentialing, with at least three of those years of experience specifically in a hospital medical staff office.
Skills/Other:
• Professional knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, practice based learning and performance improvement, systems based skills.
• Good clerical skills, writing, typing, word processing, basic computer skills, proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel, as well as good telephone techniques would be essential in order to perform this job in a satisfactory manner. Good writing skills are essential as incumbent may write meeting minutes as well as composes letters.
• Must be well organized for prioritization of responsibilities; detailed oriented; independent judgment skills in working with medical staff leaders to suggest agenda items for meetings; excellent spelling and grammar.
• The greatest challenge to the incumbent would include the ability to follow through and do a thorough job. It is necessary that the incumbent coordinate multiple tasks to ensure appropriate documentation, follow up, compliance, etc. These responsibilities are carried out with minimal supervision.
• Incumbent has access to a great deal of sensitive information; therefore, confidentiality and discretion are of great importance.
• Incumbent represents the Manager of the Medical Staff Office as requested/indicated. This would include speaking to physicians regarding matters of a sensitive nature. Poise, tact and mature judgment are essential.
• Incumbent has frequent contact with department chairs and hospital personnel and must be knowledgeable of Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, criteria/delineation of privilege documents, TJC medical staff standards, as well as other hospital activities. This involves keeping abreast of current regulation changes.
• Incumbent must be able to accomplish job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
