Position Summary


The Trauma Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership for the Trauma APP team across Premier Health’s trauma-affiliated facilities. This role includes direct clinical care, support for day-to-day operations, and collaboration with multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure excellence in trauma care delivery, quality, compliance, and provider development.

The APP Manager works in partnership with physician leadership, hospital administration, and to implement service line objectives, standardize workflows, and support system-wide initiatives. This individual also maintains clinical practice within the trauma team, modeling high standards of care and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical (Direct Patient Care – 80%)

  • Maintain clinical competencies as an APP in trauma services.
  • Provide high-quality patient care in accordance with trauma program standards and APP scope of practice.
  • Participate in regular clinical duties, including weekend and holiday rotations as applicable.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and role model for APP peers.

Administrative (Leadership & Operational Oversight – 20%)

  • Oversee day-to-day APP operations within the trauma service line.
  • Participate in recruitment, hiring, and retention efforts for trauma APPs. Such as the screening and evaluation of new APP candidates
  • Manages the onboarding, orientation, and training for new APP team members.
  • Perform 90-day reviews for new APP team members.
  • Collaborate with leadership in providing input for performance evaluations and development plans.
  • Support compliance with HIPAA, CLIA, OSHA, pharmacy regulations, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate provider schedules to ensure adequate coverage across trauma locations.
  • Facilitate effective interdisciplinary communication within the trauma team and with external partners (e.g., EMS, surgical teams, ICU).
  • Track departmental performance metrics, quality indicators, and productivity data.
  • Provide peer feedback and engage in continuous process improvement.
  • Participate in trauma program meetings, quality reviews, and case conferences.
  • Assist in coordinating trauma-related educational offerings and CME opportunities.
  • Promote a cohesive, positive work culture within the trauma APP team.

Nature and Scope

  • Reports to the service line Director, with a collaborative relationship with Trauma Medical Directors and hospital-based leadership.
  • Serves as a liaison between the trauma APPs and hospital leadership.
  • Functions as both a clinical provider and a manager with influence over scheduling, operational decisions, education, and team engagement—without direct authority over HR matters such as hiring/firing.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field required.
  • Active and unrestricted Ohio licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Certification from a nationally accredited certifying body (e.g., AANP, ANCC, NCCPA).
  • Preferred working 5 years in an acute care setting with a minimum of 3 years experience as an APP in clinical practice.
  • Previous clinical leadership or management experience preferred.
  • Current CPR and ACLS certification (ATLS preferred or required depending on institutional policy).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma system regulations, quality programs (e.g., TQIP), and clinical operations.
