CERT ONCOLOGY ABSTRACTOR/MVH/FT

Education Required: High School completion / GED

Successful completion of any Associate’s degree or the equivalent (60 college-level credit hours) is necessary to be eligible for CTR certification. The coursework must include two semesters (six total credit hours) in Human Anatomy and Human Physiology (Grade of C or better is required).

Licensure/Certification/Registration: 

Certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) from the National Cancer Registrars Association..

Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience

Preferred experience: Cancer Registry

Knowledge/Skills: 

o Time management skills and self-direction with the ability to work independently.

o Strong problem-solving, appropriate judgment and decision-making skills.

o Coding principles preferred.

o Ability to verify data input and correct errors.

o Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

o Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology terminology experience preferred.

o Effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.

o Internet skills, strong computer skills and word processing data entry skills.

o Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interactions with physicians, ancillary staff and volunteers.

o Strong organization skills
