Premier Health is actively recruiting for the Director of Legal Services for Upper Valley Medical Center, based at its System Support location in Dayton, Ohio.  The Director is responsible for all functions of the office as assigned.  Under the supervision of the CLO and Deputy Chief Legal Officer.  The Director serves to protect the assets of the hospitals and affiliated entities and promote compliance with applicable laws and public policy by: (1) providing legal advice to the Premier Health Partners affiliates, boards of directors, management staff, and employees; (2) advising them of new developments in the law affecting the hospitals and the health care industry; (3) managing claims and litigation, and (4) coordinating the services of outside counsel.   

Shall provide legal advice of and representation of Upper Valley Medical Center and other subsidiary and affiliated companies, as well as its directors, officers, management and staff.  Support the risk management program from a legal perspective for the Upper Valley Medical Center, and other subsidiary and affiliated companies, focusing mainly on loss prevention, patient and safety related risk management issues, and where appropriate, management issues.


Education: 


The Director must have earned a Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Arts degree, along with the Juris Doctor or its equivalent from an accredited law school.

Strong interpersonal skills, sensitive to all levels of employees and different constituencies. 
Effective verbal and written communications skills.  Project development and coordination skills.
Must be creative, a self-starter, and a strong team player.
Experience

  • Must be registered as an attorney with the Supreme Court of Ohio. 
  • The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to act independently, and to coordinate the activities of others in providing legal service. 
  • The incumbent must have at least five (5) years of experience of advice to and/or representation of a health care (or other similar) corporation. 
  • Experience in health care law or medical litigation experience required.
