JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:       High school diploma or equivalent or the ability to pass an assessment test.

Licensure:       Not Applicable

Certification:    Not Applicable

Experience:     Some cleaning experience helpful, but not required.

Skills/Other:      Successfully completes orientation and 3-month probationary period. Passes pre-employment physical

Successful completion of skill tests in following areas: reading, writing, basic math, Customer Relations.

Physical strength for such activities as moving equipment, lifting etc. to a maximum of 60lbs. Good

organizational skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, excellent communications skills

and the ability to work under occasionally stressful conditions which can occur due to the work load.     

 

 

 

DIMENSION/SCOPE

The Environmental Technician works under the direction of and reports to the Environmental Services Group Leader or Manager.  The Environmental Technician will respond promptly and directly to appropriate customers in their designated areas (i.e. Shift Managers, Nurse Managers, Office Managers, etc.).  The Environmental Technician has the following responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to:

 

1.        CLEANS THE UNIT AND PATIENT ENVIRONMENT

1.1           Cleans and disinfects patient areas.

1.2           Accomplishes heavy cleaning to contribute to unit appearance.

1.3           Cleans and disinfects nursing unit.

1.4           Cleans and disinfects discharged rooms.

1.5           Floor Care (i.e. Buff, Burnish, and Auto Scrub)

1.6           Carpet Care (i.e. Shampooing, Bonnet, and Extract)

 

2.        ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY

2.1           Implements measures to promote a safe environment

2.2           Maintains supplies and equipment.

2.3           Maintains knowledge and training of hazardous and infectious waste management.

2.4           Transports infectious waste per CDC guidelines

2.5           Removes large dumpsters of trash from units using electric tow motor safely

2.6           Runs large equipment in corridors following manufacturer’s guidelines

 

3.        PATIENT CARE

3.1           Maintains appropriate communication related to all patients, visitors and families.

 

4.        CITIZENSHIP/TEAM SUPPORT

4.1           Demonstrates flexibility and self-direction by responding as a team player.

4.2           Helps to create a positive work environment that promotes productivity.

 

5.        DEVELOPMENT/JOB KNOWLEDGE

5.1           Development of Self.

5.2           Development with Miami Valley Hospital.

 

6.        CUSTOMER RELATIONS

6.1           Confidentiality.

6.2           Customer Relations/Ethics

 

7.        OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

-          Able to lift 0 – 40 lbs. frequently

-          Must have communication skills in English.

-          Capable of standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, and reaching continuously throughout the shift.

-          Capable of pushing and pulling a maid cart, linen cart, or equipment (over 100 lbs.) on tile and carpeted floor continuously throughout the shift.

-          Capable of pushing and pulling furniture and equipment (25 to 100 lbs.) frequently.

-          Capable of lifting furniture and equipment (up to 25 lbs.) frequently.

-          Capable of climbing ladders frequently.

-          Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and evening hours as needed per area assignment.

-          Frequent interaction with facility employees requires the ability to communicate well with others in English.
