§ Preferred educational qualifications: Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology preferred. If qualified prior to ASCP education prerequisite change and currently certified by one of the approved agencies listed below, the education requirement will be met.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
§ Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or the National Certification Agency (NCA)
- Knowledge of biology, chemistry, and mathematics, as well as hematology, immunology, serology, microbiology, virology, and blood banking at a level normally acquired through completion of a associates degree in Medical Technology, which includes successful completion of a supervised clinical internship usually associated with the Medical Laboratory Technician program.
- Licensed Medical Laboratory Technician.
- Analytical skills necessary to interpret and to perform moderately complex statistical data and mathematical calculations.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills necessary in order to deal effectively with physicians, patients, co-workers, and other hospital personnel.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and make sound decisions during these stressful situations. Strong mental and cognitive skills are needed.
- Ability to perform multi-dimensional tasks, organizing and performing more than one procedure at a time, with fluctuating workload.
