The Physician Contracting Specialist supports and enhances the physician contracting function through advanced coordination, documentation, and lifecycle management of physician agreements. This role partners closely with the Director of Physician Contracting, Legal Counsel, Finance, and operational leadership to ensure physician contracts are strategically structured, compliant with regulatory requirements (including Stark and Anti-Kickback regulations), and aligned with organizational compensation frameworks.
The position is responsible for drafting and independently redlining physician agreements and amendments using approved templates; analyzing contract terms for consistency, risk exposure, and operational feasibility; and ensuring appropriate routing for review and execution. The Specialist maintains ownership of the contract lifecycle management system, including workflow configuration, reporting, tracking dashboards, and data integrity.
This role monitors contract milestones, compensation terms, renewal timelines, and key performance metrics, providing leadership with reporting and analysis to support decision-making. The Physician Contracting Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining contract integrity, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and operational efficiency across the physician contracting portfolio, while continuously identifying process improvements and system enhancements.
Essential Duties & Functions
• Manage the physician contract lifecycle from intake through execution and ongoing maintenance, ensuring accuracy, compliance, timely processing, and adherence to organizational standards.
• Draft, prepare, and independently review physician employment agreements, amendments, and related documents using approved templates and established compensation and policy guidelines.
• Maintain and administer the contract management system, ensuring data integrity, version control, workflow accuracy, reporting functionality, and proper documentation standards.
• Monitor and track key contract milestones including approvals, signatures, effective dates, expirations, renewals, compensation changes, and amendments; proactively follow up to mitigate risk and prevent lapses.
• Serve as a primary resource for physician contracting processes, providing guidance to operational leaders and internal stakeholders regarding contract status, documentation requirements, and workflow procedures.
• Prepare contract summaries, decision support documents, compliance materials, audit documentation, and internal/executive reporting related to physician agreements and compensation arrangements.
• Coordinate cross-functional review and approval processes with Legal, Compliance, Finance, and operational leadership to ensure contracts are properly vetted and executed.
• Support regulatory compliance efforts by ensuring contracts align with organizational policies and applicable healthcare regulations; assist with internal and external audits as needed.
• Analyze existing processes and recommend workflow improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times, and strengthen internal controls within the physician contracting function.
• Exercise independent judgment in prioritizing workload, managing deadlines, and escalating issues that present operational, financial, or compliance risk.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive compensation, employment, and organizational information.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned in support of the physician contracting function.

Education
Minimum Level of Education Required: High School Diploma
Additional requirements:
Preferred educational qualifications: Paralegal, Associates or Bachelor degree preferred
Experience
Minimum Level of Experience Required: 5 - 7 years of job related experience
Prior job title or occupational experience: Experience in contract writing, execution and management
Knowledge/Skills
• Draft, review, and independently redline physician employment agreements, amendments, addenda, and related documents using approved templates and established compensation frameworks.
• Assist with the full lifecycle of physician agreements from initial request through execution, including workflow routing, tracking, milestone monitoring, and document retention.
• Maintain and continuously update a comprehensive contract tracking database, including compensation terms, renewal dates, notice provisions, incentive metrics, and other key contractual obligations.
• Monitor contract expirations, compensation changes, and compliance deadlines; proactively notify leadership of upcoming actions or risks.
• Coordinate review and approval processes with Legal, Compliance, Finance, and executive leadership to ensure timely contract execution.
• Support audit and compliance activities by preparing documentation, reports, and summaries related to physician agreements.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle time, and strengthen internal controls within the physician contracting function.
• Prepare summary reports, dashboards, and executive-level updates regarding contract status, trends, and key performance indicators.
• Serve as a subject matter resource for physician contract processes and documentation standards across the organization.
