The Laboratory Processor/Non-Certified Phlebotomist provides comprehensive laboratory support to customers of Premier Health. Duties of the Processor/Non-Certified Phlebotomist may include any of the following:

The Processor/Non-Certified Phlebotomist is responsible for accurate and timely processing of specimens: to and from the laboratory, within the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and to the pertinent departments of the laboratory, all while following department guidelines. The position may be required to perform support duties such as centrifuging, aliquoting, distributing, labeling, loading laboratory instruments. The position maintains documentation for both in house and reference laboratories assuring proper testing is ordered and appropriate specimens are sent. The Processor/Non-Certified Phlebotomist may perform patient registration (demographics, financials, and insurance information), order entry, specimen receipt, referral orders and reviews all for compliance and accuracy.

The position may perform support functions of the Laboratory department such as typing, routing and responding to incoming telephone calls and inquiries, maintaining files and records, and distributing mail. The position may assist in orientation of students and new employees, and other duties required as needed. The Processor/Non-Certified Phlebotomist may perform waived clinical lab testing within the main campus and/or off site locations.

Other duties of the Processor/Non-Certified Phlebotomist may include, blood and other specimen collection from patients by venipuncture, capillary puncture, and other specimen collection techniques, accurately and in timely manner. When performing any collection/testing duties, safety, patient identification, collection and labeling procedures are followed. The Processor/Non-Certified Phlebotomist may perform, collections and recollections on any patient for any location of the facility including the hospital, outpatient setting, nursing homes and outreach areas as needed.

The Processor/Non-Certified Phlebotomist complies with standards regarding positive work environment, quality, customer satisfaction, and financial stewardship and may be assigned other duties as needed.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Phlebotomy training program completion preferred. Medical terminology, business/secretarial courses helpful. 

Certification: Primary Phlebotomist positions are required to sign an agreement that the employee will obtain their Certification from approved associations within 6 months of hire.

Experience: Experience in healthcare or healthcare related training program and work with the public is preferred.

Skills/Other: Basic computer skills, medical terminology, telephone etiquette are needed. Strong interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, physician offices, co-workers and other hospital personnel as well as other external customers either in person or via the telephone is required. Strong mental and visual skills are needed. Organization, critical thinking, problem solving/reasoning ability, good independent judgment and initiative to effectively meet multiple and simultaneous demands needed are essential.
