A registered polysomnographic technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, scoring of records, patient care and patient education.

Education Required: High School completion / GED

Licensure/Certification/Registration: 

Must have the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist credential issued by the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologist or Registered Sleep Technologist credential issued by the American Board of Sleep Medicine.

BLS certification upon hire

Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience

Preferred experience: 1-3 years of sleep experience

Knowledge/Skills:

Demonstrated ability to educate patients.

Basic computer skills and the ability to use Microsoft Office

Essential Duties & Functions:

· Gather, analyze and score patient Information and data acquisition.

· Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments as necessary.

· Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting at advanced skill level, with a thorough working knowledge of current mask designs.

· Follow procedural protocols such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test, Maintenance of Wakefulness Test, parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration to ensure collection of appropriate data.

· Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory heart rates, etc.

· Insure signals during testing are artifact free and make adjustments as necessary.

· Follows appropriate workflows for scoring and data retrieval.
