Position Summary
General Summary/Responsibilities:
The Safety Companion is a paraprofessional member of the health care team who works under the supervision of a licensed nurse to perform basic nursing tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions:
1. General office environment.
2. Climate controlled environment.
3. May work some evenings and weekend hours to complete projects or meet the needs of the department.

Organizational Standards
§ Assists PCT and RN with care of the patient.
§ Demonstrates knowledge of skin care including prevention
§ Maintains accurate documentation in the Epic computer system.
§ Meets the safety needs of the patient and uses equipment safely and properly (i.e.
§ Follows all agency policies regarding infection control and employee safety.
§ Recognizes patient's needs and attends to their requests in a prompt and organized manner.
§ Maintains a neat and orderly patient environment.
§ Utilizes appropriate communication skills with the patient
§ Serves patient’s tray and assist with feeding if necessary. Removes food tray and reports amount eaten.
§ Completes accurate records and carries out all assignments as requested. Is responsible for maintaining minimum weekend on-call
§ Demonstrates respect for patient property and maintains patient confidentiality.
§ Observes basic elements of body functioning and reports changes to the RN.
§ Recognizes emergencies and demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures.
§ Performs only under the supervision of an RN who has provided written instruction for patient care (Care Plan). Participates in ongoing development of the Plan of Treatment.
JOB LIMITATIONS:
§ May not receive orders from a physician.
§ Will not administer medications or pre-fill insulin syringes
§ May not perform any sterile procedures or perform any intravenous procedures.
§ May not perform procedures requiring the knowledge
§ Is not authorized to perform non-patient related work without prior authorization from supervisor.
