Summary of Position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for completing various accounting activities and financial analysis to ensure the timely and accurate completion of monthly financial statements and other special projects within the organization. This position understands general accounting principles that affect their assigned area of accounting. This position takes the extra steps to research accounting literature that affects the financial statements as needed.

Nature and Scope

The Senior Accountant is viewed as a leader in the Financial Accounting Department. This position requires minimal direction from management and is able to think and solve problems independently. This position will act in a supervisory capacity when supervisory personnel are not available. The Senior Accountant will train and mentor new and existing staff. The Senior Account must be goal-oriented and a proactive thinker who challenges current processes and makes recommendations for improvement.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
May include some or all of the following:

1. Creates, analyzes and interprets complex financial statements, reports and other financial and non-financial data.

2. Prepares and reviews annual practice budgets

3. Presents to management any findings and recommendations for improvement on the reports/data they are analyzing.

4. Reviews worked prepared by the Staff Accountants

5. Challenge the monthly statistics that we report and ensure they adequately meet the business needs of the organization.

6. Senior accountant is integral to the completion of the annual external audit.

7. Prepares the audit binder and works directly with the auditors to answer their analytical questions and any follow up questions.

8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

9. Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective communication with a variety of internal and external customers.

10. Must be able to make recommendations in all areas of responsibility and present these recommendations both orally and in writing in a public setting.

11. Must be flexible with work hours to meet demands of a constantly changing environment.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related business field required
2. CPA or Masters Preferred
3. 3 to 5 years Accounting or Finance experience
4. Must have a strong technical background and proven proficiency in Excel, Access and Word. Also knowledge of mainframe systems applications is preferred
