STEAM SYSTEM TECH
Education: High school graduate or (GED) equivalent. Associate degree in maintenance or similar completed formal certificate education program as approved by MVH PS&E. Must have maintenance or construction working knowledge of Boiler/steam Systems, HVAC system, Electrical, plumbing systems. Must have completed formal training on boilers. Must be familiar with and use of computers and programs. General knowledge of codes (Boiler, NEC, OSHA, Plumbing). Must have a boilers operator’s license or obtain one within six months of employment in steam plant.
Experience: Two years as a boiler operator or steam/hot water boiler plant experience. Five years experience General construction/ maintenance experience on plumbing systems, HVAC and or mechanical systems. Working knowledge of building/fire Codes, boiler codes, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards (OSHA). Work experience with small hand tools, instruments, drain pipe equipment and associated boiler/steam equipment systems.
Skills: Basic boiler operation, water chemistry, steam knowledge, steam safety, excellent guest relations and communication skills (written and verbal). Must be familiar with computers. Must be able to read, problem solve using plumbing drawings and instruction manuals. Familiar with and trained or able to use all standard maintenance tools, test instruments and specialized tools, meters. Ability to work on multiple tasks and communicate effectively.
Work Schedules: as assigned. Requires working nights, weekends or after hours to maintain, repair and operate the boiler plant. Work with contractors or staff on scheduled shut-downs, emergency repairs, and system changes as scheduled to maintain hospital operations.
