The Clinical Neuroscience Inst-MVH – General Neurology / Neuro-One

FT/ 80 hours per pay

Summary

 The Neurology Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) delivers comprehensive neurological care across both the outpatient neurology clinic and the Neuro-One inpatient service within Premier Health. This hybrid role supports continuity of care, acute neurological management, and collaborative practice with neurologists, neurosurgeons, and multidisciplinary teams.

The Premier Physician Network offers a variety of Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant positions with varying degrees of responsibility. Advanced Practice Providers, in conjunction with the center’s physicians and clinical staff, are responsible for exemplary patient primary health care and continuity of medical services under the direction of supervising physicians. Responsibilities vary by position and specialty, and APPs must remain accessible to their physicians, staff, and supervisors to ensure high-quality, coordinated care.

 

Nature and Scope

 

Knowledge of professional medical practice to give and evaluate patient care. Skilled in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care. Competent in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings. Ability to maintain quality assurance and quality control standards. Capable of reacting calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Excellent communication skills with both patients and colleagues are essential.

 

Job Description:

 

Outpatient Neurology Clinic

  • Conduct independent and collaborative patient visits for a broad range of neurological conditions including headache disorders, epilepsy, neuropathies, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, and cognitive disorders.
  • Perform neurological histories and examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies (MRI/CT, EEG, EMG, laboratory tests), and develop evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Provide medication management, patient counseling, and chronic disease follow-up.
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers, specialty services, and community resources.
  • Support clinic operations including triage, urgent evaluations, and post-hospital follow-up for Neuro-One discharges.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to clinical protocol development.

Neuro-One Inpatient Service (Premier Health)

  • Evaluate and manage hospitalized patients with acute neurological conditions such as stroke/TIA, seizures/status epilepticus, neuromuscular emergencies, encephalopathy, and postoperative neurosurgical cases.
  • Perform daily rounds, document progress notes, and collaborate with attending neurologists and neurosurgeons.
  • Respond to inpatient neurology consults from emergency medicine, hospital medicine, and surgical teams.
  • Assist with stroke alerts, acute neurological assessments, and coordination of diagnostic testing.
  • Support care transitions including discharge planning, medication reconciliation, and communication with outpatient providers.
  • Participate in Neuro-One operational initiatives, clinical pathways, and multidisciplinary case reviews.

Qualifications

  1. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree from an accredited NP / PA program.

2.       Neurology experience preferred; new graduates with strong interest in neuroscience considered.

  1. Strong neurological assessment skills and comfort managing both acute and chronic neurological conditions.
  2. Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Applicant must be a certified CNS / NP / PA. Current State of Ohio licensure is required and should be maintained at all times.
  4. Certificate to Prescribe must be current and maintained at all times.

     

  5. A thorough understanding of HIPAA law is required and professional discretion must be demonstrated at all times.
  6. Applicant must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent communication skills with both patients and colleagues are essential.
  7. Computer literacy is required and must include Excel, Word and Outlook, and Electronic Medical Records experience is an advantage, preferably EPIC.
